Section B / Why licence status matters
The licence is the only thing standing between you and an unregulated termiticide job
Termite treatment means injecting restricted-use termiticide into the soil around your foundation, drilling slabs, or fumigating the whole structure. Every state on this register makes that work illegal without a business licence and a certified applicator, and the licence is what triggers the insurance requirement, the treatment-record filing and the complaint process if something goes wrong. An unlicensed job voids most termite bonds and leaves you with no regulator to call.
The register also tells you what the business is licensed for. In Virginia a company with category 7-A but not 7-B is a general pest business, not a termite business. In Texas the letter T on the licence is the termite category. In California the Structural Pest Control Board records the specialty on the company registration, and only Branch 3 covers termite inspection and treatment. In North Carolina the phase letters sit inside the licence number itself, so 1489PW is certified for structural pest control and for wood-destroying organisms while 2395P is not. In Mississippi the wood-destroying insect category is the one that matters, written WDIL where the operator sat the examination and WDIP where the bureau issued a permit to a trained employee. Of the 9,537 records where the state records the category, 6,316 (66%) hold it; the rest are general pest, lawn or fumigation licences that should not be quoting a termite job on their own.
What a licence does not tell you: price, quality, or whether the company is still trading. Use the snapshot date on each record, then confirm on the regulator's search before you sign, and get three written quotes against the cost bands on our state sheets.

What does the termite (WDO) flag mean, and which states record it?+
The flag reproduces the regulator's own category for wood-destroying organism work: Virginia category 7-B, Texas category T, California's Branch 3 termite specialty, North Carolina phase W on the licence number, Mississippi’s wood-destroying insect category, WDIL or WDIP. 6,316 of the 9,537 records in 5 states (66%) carry it. 3 states record nothing usable at business level, so their rows show the flag as not recorded rather than as no. Florida: Florida licenses pest control businesses under one licence; the WDO (termite) endorsement is not included in the FDACS export. Arizona: Arizona records the certification categories, wood-destroying organisms included, on the qualifying party and the certified applicators rather than on the business licence. Louisiana: LDAF records termite (LP3) on the individual licensee, not on the place-of-business permit.
Does a listing mean the operator is licensed today or recommended?+
Neither. Each record shows the status the regulator reported on a dated snapshot (Florida 28 Aug 2026, California 1 Aug 2026, Texas 7 Sep 2026, Arizona 11 Sep 2026, North Carolina 1 Sep 2026, Virginia 27 Aug 2026, Mississippi 2 Sep 2026, Louisiana 20 Apr 2026). Licences lapse, renew and change hands between snapshots, so verify the number on the regulator's own search before paying anything. Nothing here is a recommendation and no operator pays to be listed.
Why does Mississippi show register rows instead of operator pages?+
MDAC releases no street address. The record the Bureau of Plant Industry supplied on 2 September 2026 carries the business name, licence number, mailing town, ZIP and category codes and nothing else, so 678 Mississippi businesses are rows on 23 area pages. A page built on a company name and a town would repeat what the area page already says, so none is built.
Where do the Texas addresses come from, and why is there no phone number?+
From a different file to the licences. The weekly TDA Structural Pest Control Service report names the business, its DBA, its categories, its licence dates and its county, and stops there; that is why Texas was county rows until 11 September 2026. On that date the department answered a public information request (PIR# 26-715, Government Code chapter 552, no fee charged) with the physical address it holds for every commercial business account. Those addresses are matched back to the licences by business name within the same county and by nothing looser, so 3,474 of the 3,615 Texas businesses now have a full operator file and 115 are still rows: mostly branch licences held by the national chains, where one name answers to several addresses in one county and picking one would be a guess. Neither TDA file carries a phone number or a web address, so no Texas record here shows one; ring the business or use the TDA licence search to confirm the TPCL.
Why are South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee not covered yet?+
South Carolina: Excluded by decision 28 Aug 2026 (individual-level register, no addresses, solicitation restriction). Georgia: Register sits behind a robots-disallowed vendor host; export requested from GDA (28 Aug 2026). Alabama: Public search lists individual applicators only; company list requested (28 Aug 2026). Tennessee: Charter register is robots-disallowed; export requested from TDA (28 Aug 2026). Coverage is added only from a regulator's own business-level record, never from scraped directories or inferred company names.

Use the regulator's public search linked on every page: FDACS for Florida, SPCB for California, TDA SPCS for Texas, AZDA OPM for Arizona, NCDA&CS for North Carolina, VDACS for Virginia, MDAC BPI for Mississippi, LDAF for Louisiana. Search by the licence or permit number shown on the operator file, then check the expiry date, the categories held and, in Louisiana, which named technician holds the termite endorsement.
